Based on the strength of work we had delivered for various other schemes in Manchester. Lovell asked us to pitch communications work for Miles Platting; a transformational development of a 264-acre, inner city housing estate in East Manchester into a sustainable, mixed tenure urban environment.
The works involve a 15 year comprehensive refurbishment programme of 1,520 existing council houses and flats and the creation of 1,800 new-build family houses and apartments. This is urban regeneration in the truest sense of the term. Our first visit to the site revealed a disenfranchised and neglected community amidst urban decline and decay. The challenge for Lovell here is significant, as it will be for it’s communications strategy.
There is no place here for marketing spin and design artifice. Creating confidence, building trust and reinvigorating an entire community are short term objectives, whilst the regeneration and renewal of this tract of East Manchester into a vibrant, sustainable local community is the greater goal and good.
This will be a challenging project for us, but one that we are poised to tackle and excited to undertake. Watch this space and we’ll let you know how it goes.
